I’m a sophomore in high school and am very interested in becoming a dentist(or some of the specialized areas like orthodontics.) I am wanting to do either a 45-hour or 90-hour internship primarily over this summer, and possibly some hours over my next school year (junior year) if I did not complete the total hours. What kind of internship would benefit me most and provide me good experience? I was thinking about asking both my dentist and orthodontist if I can intern them, but I don’t know how to go about it. Who do I ask–the dentist/ortho, the secretary, the assistant. Email them? Ask at the appointment?
If you have any other ideas, please let me know. Is there some sort of lab relating to dentistry at a university that would relate to dentistry? Also, I am interested in going to med school. Not sure what exactly for…maybe pediatrics, pharmacy…? Pharmacy is also an interest. I love nutrition also, but if I’m totally honest I’d rather work in a health related field and live a healthy life still improving the health of others while making double the amount of money.
I love biology but since I am a sophomore I’ve only taken Honors physics and am currently in Honors biology. I am a leader of a club that makes blankets for children in need, treasurer of UNICEF, involved in HOSA (health occupations students of america), FDA (future doctors of america), and other ecs that aren’t as relevant to this. GPA 3.91. I’m afraid I’m underqualified to be interning someone with so much education, especially if I were to work in a lab…but I really would like to. What do you think?
