High School Sports in your state

What is the biggest high school sport in your state (or are sports even big)? In Minnesota high school hockey is legendary and attendance easily outdoes football, basketball, and baseball in the state tournaments. Check out this picture taken before the state championship game last year: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/02/2009_MN_Boys_Hockey_State_Championship.jpg And keep in mind it was like this before every game of the state tournament. That is the Xcel Energy Center where the Wild (NHL team) play their games.

What is the biggest sport in your state and how crazy does it get?

Basketball is the largest by far. They actually televise the basketball tournament on PBS (in a state with only two cities with TV stations). My high school used to be really intense when we had a good team.

At our school, last year 10 different male athletes qualified for Spring and Winter track nationals, yet still 90% of funding goes to our 3-5 football team.

Oh and btw, my school (Eden Prairie, in the white in the picture) is home to the first American taken in the NHL draft (16 by the Wild) Nick Leddy. We won that game 3-0.

wisconsin = basketball!

Texas (specifically West Texas) is all about football.

Even though our school dominates in Cross Country, all the attention is on our sucky football team.

i think basketball and football is the strongest in almost every state

Basketball and soccer at my school. Basketball and football in the whole state. Come on, it’s Indiana, you can’t expect basketball to NOT be huge.

In my state… Football <– texas

California = football.

or cross country. or soccer. idk, anything but hockey

I’m in Illinois, so definitely football. It’s also the biggest at my school, which has won a lot of State titles in football.

Um I don’t know I live in Texas. So maybe it’s football.
In Texas Football>life

i would def say football or xc in illinois. our school placed first in boys xc at state so its huge here!

I live in Minnesota and my entire town, even though we do have a pretty good hockey team, thinks hockey is lame. Our losing football and basketball teams still get more attention/fans.

Michigan- football and cheerleading. Oh, and marching band.

I’m from CT…we don’t really have any good athletes (lol, not really kidding), but probably Football or Basketball are the king sports here.

Texas. most obviously FOOTBALL!!! No west tex team can beat a DFW team! Goin to state!

texas = football
