Hey guys, first time posting here :). OK, I'm really interested in starting some biomedical research, but I have no clue on how to start out. So I was hoping some of you amazing RSI applicants (others are also welcomed to post too! ;)) to help me out here.

I'm really interested in doing something in immunology, but I only have an AP Bio background (btw im a sophomore). I plan to take AP Chemistry and Immunology I (college course) next year. The problem is, I can't casually contact a local college to participate in some kind of research, because colleges don't exist in my community...:(

I know that many people are interested in this, so please give us, "research hopefuls", some suggestions/advice on how we should start out! Thanks in advance!

r there any private biotech research companies/firms in ur area?

On another note, i see that ur interested in immunology which is great. Stanford has a great summer program for rising seniors called CCIS (Center for Clinical Immunology at Stanford) http://ccis.stanford.edu/internships.html. It's an 8 week summer program in immunology. It's pretty selective and prestigious. It's only commuter tho, but if u can make travel arrangements that would be awesome. I myself applied this year and am anxiously awaiting results.

Anywho, good luck in finding research.

thanks wrathofgod.

i dont know if there any biotech firms, but ill definitely start searching for one. i'm really interested in that CCIS program, but is it only for locals? and how do you apply?

anymore comments to add people :)?

If there are any major universities/medical centers in your area, call them up and ask about internships/volunteer oppurtunities. In your time working, you will be able to find possible doctors/profs/scientists to be a possible mentor and work with you.

caesar, i don't think there's anything stopping people who are not from the Bay Area from attending; however, it is just a commuter program, which means if u are from out of the area u will have to make private arrangements for ur stay. right now since they are in the process of posting up decisions (April 15th) their website has changed. However, if u check back in 2-3 months u will hopefully find a full description of the program and the application forms for the summer 2006 CCIS. Also, if u have any pertinent questions regarding the logistics of the program I suggest u email Dr. Utz, who is the program director.
