<p>Interesting article about a lawsuit just filed against Harvard and UNC alleging racial discrimination for continued use of affirmative action-type policies. Given the discussions often had on this forum about over-represented minorities, it's of particular interest that one of the allegations in this lawsuit is that Harvard limits the number of Asian-American admittances and thus holds those candidates to a higher standard than other applicants.

<p>This gets me thinking: do boarding schools also follow a set criteria in their efforts to maintain a diverse student body? </p>
<p>If i understand the case correctly, H is being sued under Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits racial discrimination by educational institutions which receive federal funds (i.e. Pell grant, federally subsidized student loans). Since prep schools don’t receive federal funds, they’re not subject to Title VI.</p>
