I looked on UCLA's website and saw the three week stem cell class available to high schoolers, has anyone participated in this program and taken a similar class? Any other comments/info/suggestions would be great!

and also...here comes the archtypical "What do you have to do to get into UCLA?"
I've heard that UCLA is just as selective as UCBerkeley...but perhaps it's just a rumor...
If anyone is willing to give some examples of grades/test scores/ extracurriculars/essay topic etc, it would also be greatly appreciated!

search thread titles in UCLA forum: "Decisions"

UCLA~Cal in selectivity. Anyways, that stem cell class seems pretty cool (im guessing summer). I'd say take it if you are really interested in stem cells. If you make it into UCLA (or any UC) that class will be on your transcript forever.

Stem cells do interest me...but the class is pretty expensive, and I've heard some colleges hire professors/have programs that don't belong to their school and are merely for profit...is that true for UCLA's summer program for high schoolers?

i think i misunderstood your question for the stem cell thing. Is this a class that any undergraduate at UCLA can take (and that others including high schoolers can take) or is it something that is JUST for high schoolers. If the latter is the case, then I don't think it will count towards your future gpa (better call and check on this). Anyways, if you're interested then just take it.

It is the latter, just for high schoolers. Well, the whole GPA not counting towards college could be both a good and bad thing... so bruinboy or anyone else have you done any programs like this before that were worthwhile?
