Alright so I am a sophomore at my local community college and I am currently applying to schools. At first I was thinking about lying on my Common App and saying I was never suspended but I decided against it, so I hit yes and now it wants the date of each suspension, what I did, and what I learned. I was a terrible person/student in High School, I was constantly in trouble and my grades were poor. Once I got to Community College I got serious and have been getting straight As and some Bs, so I have one question. How much of an impact do my High School suspensions have on me getting into the schools I am applying to? I never got in trouble for anything serious, only being a smart ass and cutting class, and I have TONS of suspensions under my belt. I wouldn't be able to go through and say what I learned because I didn't learn anything, I was a kid, I was immature, I no longer talk back to teachers even when I know I'm right and they're wrong. Should I just write an essay?

I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with it, unless you did a crime or something.

haha no just cutting class/talking back to teachers. I haven’t had one issue at my community college. Also, in the person essay it asks why I want to transfer, but doesn’t the common app go to all schools? I have different reasons for wanting to transfer based on what school, I don’t know what to do!

The only suspensions they want are those comparable to stuff that would have gotten you in trouble with the law, I believe. They don’t know how strict your school is. At my school, a girl got a suspension for sitting on the wrong bench.

Ask your counselor which suspensions “count” from your school and which ones your school will report if asked on the Common App.
