A while back, my counselor told me that transcripts would not be available until last week, which was fine with me because I know that colleges give a little leeway for school documents. However, my school was closed all of last week because of snow, and I will not be able to mail my high school transcripts until the 18th. Most of the schools I applied to had deadlines on the 1st. Will I be penalized in anyway because my transcript will come in so late? Should I or my counselor include a note explaining its long delay?

Since counselors are in charge of sending transcripts, I doubt you will be penalized for late sending. Still, I would indeed attach a letter to the document explaining the delay. My personal opinion ;)

Thanks for your input. I went ahead and sent transcripts today with a letter of explanation included. Now I can only wait and hope for the best!

This sounds so similar to my problem. Nne, if you don’t mind me asking, how exactly did you send the letter of explanation to the colleges? Did you just kind of give it to your counselor to send along with your transcript?

Maybe your school sends transcripts differently than mine, I don’t know.

I wrote up a little explanation, and then my counselor signed it. He then placed it inside of the envelopes containing my transcripts.

Thank you for your help! I will do that then.
