High School Transcript

I am international student, and I want to make sure my school transcript includes everything an American one does, and doesn't omit important information. Is the transcript supposed to include anything before 9th grade(which is when we start high school as well)? Also, grades from my current senior year will be available after the semester ends in January. So should it include anything about 12th grade as well? Is it enough for my transcript to list courses and grades from 9th grade to 11th grade only, or should it have something else?
P.S. I am talking about the transcipt that is send before January 1 during the standard application period.

it should list the courses and grades for the first half of your 12th grade (which I assume will end around Dec or January?).

The problem is the first semester ends on January 31 or so, and no grades will be available before that date, so should my transcript include anything about my senior year?

It needs to list courses and grades for high school years completed which is years 9 through 11 if you follow same high school track as US. For senior year it should list courses you are and will be taking. It does not need to include any senior year grades although you may have to send an update after you have applied showing such grades (check each college for whether it requires a mid-year report after you have applied). It does not need to include pre-ninth year courses or grades. However, if the school can include some on your transcript, you should consider including high school level courses taken before high school that can count toward the total high school years needed for a course sequence. Example: high school level foreign language or math courses taken in 7th or 8th grade that can count toward total number of high school years needed for those subject areas.

Other information that may also be provided (although not required) that could be helpful includes: (a) any special awards you have received in high school; (b) participation in school sponsored extra curricula activities (e.g., are you you a member or president of a math club?); (c) a school profile where the school describes who it is, number of students per class year, courses offered including any IB or AP courses, and an explanation of its grading system (weighting method if weighting is used); and (d) your class rank or something that tells the college your approximate rank such as the range of GPAs for the top 10% and 25% of the students. It is also helpful if it can identify some administrator at the school who can be contacted by the college if it has questions.

I very much appreaciate your response, drusba. It was extremely helpful and insightful. You do sound like someone in the business who can give some inside information.

I would say that if your semester ends on Jan 31, it would be absolutely necessary to send in a update with your semester grades in addition to your transcript. All other Regular Decision round applicants send in their 12th grade 1st semester grades. You should plan on it as well. Good luck
