As you may have guessed by the title I'm from Germany. My question is whether when applying to a US college as an international if I need a high school transcript from multiple schools even if I'm an international student. Second of all: is there a form that has to be filled out for the transcript? I'm applying via the common app. And last of all: what is a midyear school report? I don't exactly understand whether it's a prediction of my grades or whatnot...

Have you attended several schools in recent years? What I would do: summarize all your grades on one piece of paper, indicate which school you attended at the time and have whoever does your school report sign that that is correct. You can attach copies of your official transcripts (Zeugnisse) if you would like. Colleges just need an official (English) list of all your grades. If your current school is willing to vouch for grades from other schools, that works. Otherwise you would need to get a translated copy of your report cards from each school, or ask an interpreter for an official translation of your German transcripts.

About the midyear school report: College applications are typically due sometime between Dec 15 and Jan 15. At that point you will probably have your end-of-year grades from your junior year but not your first semester grades from your senior year. Once you do get your 1st semester senior grades, report those grades to the colleges you are applying to using the midyear school report form. The form may arrive after the official application deadline.

b@r!um, i have a question to this as well. do i really need to submit my grades from grade 9 onwards? they dont count towards my gpa, only the grades from year 12 + 13 do…
thanks!

I know that only grades from the last two years count towards the Abitur, but most American colleges are explicitly requesting transcripts from the last 4 years of secondary school. However, you can certainly use your Abiturschnitt as your GPA, as long as you make it explicit that it is only computed from the last two years’ worth of grades.
