How much does working your ass off Now to pay for your bad choices Then actually matter when applying to a college, specifically NYU?
I mean, does admissions even pay attention to the specifics of the person's life, or do they just look at the grades and the tests?

Here are some specifics....(You've heard it)
I did terrible in High School for various reasons, didn't try, didn't go...got ALL F's my freshman year. Then I went to some "alternative" high schools for a couple of years (getting A's and B's) and finally came back to public high school senior year getting mediocre grades....B's, C's, maybe a few A's.
Awful SAT scores, I can't even remember but I think it's something like 1000 combined.

Anywayyyy....After other trials and tribulations I managed to start at a Community College that I am currently attending. I have mainly A's (about 10 or so) a couple B's and 1 C+. I'll be done this summer (working full time too-can't go full time) and haven't gotten anything lower than an A for 4 semesters and can't see myself getting anything lower until I'm done.

I really want to attend NYU next year and I'm one of those crazy people that believes hard work but mostly heart can get you in...not just test scores and high school.

Am I wrong?

Thanks,
Sorry so terribly long.

Ave you talking abort transferring from a CC or applying as a freshman? I don't know about proving yourself in senior year, but you can do much to prove yourself and make your mark in an "average" undergrad.

I'm talking about transferring. I wouldn't apply as a freshman considering I will have 60 credits by the time I apply.

This wasn't helpful to me at all. Did you even read my post?

Not sure if this is the answer you're looking for, but When you transfer from CC to a college, they don't look at your HS stuff. This maybe be different for NYU, but I know that's how it is for CC here in california. I think you don't even need ot take SATs or ACTs if you transfer (but again, that's a CC-> UC) NOt sure if that applies to you, but I know one thing for sure for sure-- HS doesn't count in your transfer.

Thanks. That's encouraging. I guess that's all I needed. : )

"This wasn't helpful to me at all. Did you even read my post?"

Sorry....my bad...I WAS trying to help.......wasn't sure how long you had been at the cc, or if you were maybe registered in both a cc and high school. You said "I' ll be done. this summer..".. just meant if you did well a few years before transferring or going to graduate school, you should be fine.

I guess I DO spend too much time here!!!

No, it's ok. I was in a bad mood. : ) : )
