Hey all. I just finished my sophomore year in high school. I am concerned about my grades and what will happen. Freshman year I had all A’s with 3 Honors Classes. English I, Bio, and Algebra II. Sophomore year first semester I had all A’s with 4 Honors/AP classes. English I Honors, AP Euro, Chemistry H, and Trig/Precal H. Sadly , I finished second semester of sophomore year with one C+. Every other class I have an A in except for Trig/Precal. I am now deeply worried my chances of getting into colleges/professional school are ruined. Am I too paranoid or is this really as bad as I put it? Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated.
It is pretty paranoid to let one high C get to you. Just work junior year like you did freshman and first semester sophomore years and you’ll be fine. Don’t forget about ACT/SAT!
Yo high school senior here. He’s right. I don’t know about your school, but my school gives out these forms for teachers to use when writing your letters of rec, and there’s a section on there about explaining any grades that might look worse than they are. You might also have a chance to explain your grade in an essay or two. But be careful with this, you don’t want to sound whiny or like you’re making excuses for obvious reasons. No college wants a kid like that. Basically though, one C won’t kill you, and you have options for making it up next year. You got this, keep going strong my friend.
@Redwood20 @FlyingCoffin Thanks so much for your feedback! I’m planning to do Calc BC next year, and I’m confident I can get a good grade as I slacked off towards the end. Would you say an A in Calc BC both semesters with a 4-5 exam score make up for the Trig/Precal. Next year I am a junior.
Sure thing! If you can get an A in BC and a 4 or 5 on the exam, that’s impressive in itself. I’d still do what you can to explain that lower grade, but it looks like you’re definitely on the right track to fixing it.
Goodness! Relax! What is the problem with a high C in Trig/Precal and As in every other class. There is no, zip, zero that you slacked off in the second semester. Don’t waste your time reviewing second semester to find the elusive moment when you did something that might have==great speculation==lost a point or two. Rejoice in what you obtained through your efforts.
If you were to ask your parents, teachers, and other adults you admire and respect if they ever got a C in high school, I bet you will find a good many did. It is even possible some got a C in college.
Love learning. Enjoy life. Do the best you can. Even the angels can’t do more.
