High School

I'm planning to apply to Stern in the near future and I'm wondering if I need Physics to apply(does it look good?) or is it just a waste of a class.

I'm sure they would like to see a science class in your senior year. It doesn't have to be physics, though.

could it be like ap bio or ap environmental?

anything that has to do with quantative reasoning would be beneficial.

o yeah, definitely take ap calculus ab or bc. admissions people want to see you take calculus even though you wont get the credit for it.

is it ok that u dont get a advanced regents diploma cuz im takin my last math b class but i aint gonna take the regents cuz i know im gonna fail.

ymvc15 - I have to ask about your high school. Will they allow you to skip the Math B exam? My daughter can't even skip the Physics Regents exam in her junior year even though she already met the science requirement for the Advanced Regents by the end of tenth grade and the Physics class is an AP class.

If you cannot meet the requirements for an Advanced Regents diploma, I seriously don't think you will be admitted to NYU. An Advanced Regents diploma shows that you have achieved a level beyond NY's low requirements for a Regents diploma. Look at those exams you have to pass to obtain the Regents diploma. Those exams (Math A, Global, US, Bio and English) are quite easy and that set of courses is a minimal set for college preparation. All you have to do to get the Advanced Regents diploma is pass another science, Math B and a foreign language exam. And passing grades are not very high. If a significant number of people pass a course but fail to pass the Regents exam, then the course is not preparing you for the Regents exam. From what I have seen, the courses (esp. in math and science) prepare students to pass a toughter exam than than the Regents exam.

You need to demonstrate that you are willing to accept a challenge to get into NYU. Giving up on passing Math B is not a good idea.

^true that...

When I was first researching colleges, the top colleges wanted the "holy trinity" of science: biolgy, chemistry and physics, calculus and four years of foreign language. This was for the top schools, NYU may be a little more forgiving, but only if they have to be. Take the challenging courses.

yes my school does allow us to skip the math b regents.well if i dont get the advacned regents diploma im still going for a couple of ap exams. math is my weakest subject and my average for math is around a 70 but all my other subjects are in the high 80's and 90's. hopefully nyu will realize that and im taking the most challenging courses for for some subjects except for math and im only a sophmore.

bump.......................

so does anyone think i still got a shot of getting into nyu and my SAT scores are probably gonna be around the 1300's.
