Anyone else notice that the administrators in High School treat students all like prisoners who are going to do something bad the second they turn away? I found out too recently (was going to the store nearby my school to go pick up a soda to drink) and some hall-moniter came up to me and told me to go back in, as high schools are "Closed-Campuses" where you cannot leave or enter except at designated times, or with written permission expressing a dire reason.

In College however (as Ive noticed in the classes Ive been taking at the local public) they are a lot more lenient, and trust the students instead. Why do you think this is? I feel completely insulted when they make idiotic rules like, I mean i was thirsty and wanted a soda! I would have argued but that guy had the power to ruin my college chances by giving me detention, so I just sucked up and said sry and I didnt know and all that crap.

They also dont let us walk in the halls except in specifcally designated times, and are always suspicious of everyone. Talk about fascists.

Colleges can't see detention, they are expunged from your record at the end of the year. They can only see suspensions. That being said, it was probably still a good idea to not argue with the school administrator.

RootBeerCaesar, I think it really depends on what particular high school you went to. My high school allows its students to be in the halls, walk out of campus, etc. But that might be because there are about 2600 students at are school, and those rules would be impossible to enforce.

Similarly, Colleges are also large, and I think it would be impossible for them to keep track of all their students. And when your in college, most students are 18+, legal adults, so those kind of restrictions would be silly.

Well, in college, MOST students are adults and are ultimately responsible for themselves, so colleges are more lenient. In high school, most students are minors and they are the schools responsibility during the school day, hence the more strict rules.

But at my high school, we have an open campus and are allowed to leave for lunch.

I guess it makes sense about the legal-obligation part, and knowing some kids at my school i suppose it would make sense as some of them clearly would prob jsut run off the school campus to go smoke pot and then run back (those kids just do it before and after school now, not in between due to the restriction)

Kids shouldn't go off campus during school hours. If they got lost or hurt the school gets screwed. Ya, it would be nice to go off and get something to eat somewhere else but it is not that important. Honestly, the administrators could probably care less what you guys think. You're leaving in under 4 years and they have a job to do, they don't make the rules. They just get paid a lot to enforce them.

my high school just removed hall passes and shortened our between classes time, for god knows what reason, maybe they don't want us to go the bathroom or something, consider yourself lucky (to the topic starter)

Eh well in the school's defense if anything were to happen to you while you were off campus some crazy parent would try and hold them liable and sue.
