High schoolers (Non seniors)

I will be the first to tell you from this years group, i am sure their will be plenty responses... APPLY TO A SCHOOL EARLY. Do not say I can't choose or I don't know because you have to choose anyways in the end. You only need one letter trust me no one cares about how many letters you get. All i want is to give one person the chance to get into a school because I said this because my college consnselour never said it would be this bad. I was rejected from 5 schools. Duke, Wash U, 3 ivies. I have the grades and everything. Why they rejected me i dont care, im not mad or upset anymore. I just want to you to know that I saw people who are not qualified get into those schools just because they applied ED.

Do the following...
1. Choose a school
2. Take a trip there (Demonstrated Interest - Especially for Wash U)
3. After the tour go and introduce yourself to the Dean of Undergrad Admissions ...think of questions or what to tell him about the school. Don't just say hi or wow i love this school. Think of something to ask him that only he would be able to answer.
4. Go home
5. Go to the 1st college fair and find the booth and speak in detail with the undergrad admission officer for the area. Tell her why you love the school and why you are applying ED.
6. Contact her with any questions. Call her at least 2 times and make sure by the 2nd time she remembers you.
7. Apply ED.
8. Write the why _____ essay even if optional and really give real detail since you should know so much.

I promise you, if you have the grades, or are even subpar you have a better chance at getting in than if you wait. I dont want to say you will get in becase no not everyone will get in. BUT I saw some crazy stuff this year.

Please don't post negative comments that will offend me because I am not in the best mood. Just understand my goal: to get at least one kid who would have been rejected from a school into the school because he applied early and showed that he really loved it.

Like i said, theres no need to apply to 2 schools unless ED fails. You have to choose in the end and the chances of getting in are far worse.

Please post any comments or if you will now try this approach. Anyoone else who would like to comment about this please do.
Just force yourself to i promise you...when this works for you.....and you see your friends who dont get in because they didint apply ED. You will wonder why the hell they didnt apply ED.

Edit: If there is an issue with money choose a school that you like from your list that will be able to let you go if you get in ED and will help you pay. I promise you if your schools are top notch it will be a better choice applying ED.

I totally disagree. No one who can't afford to be a full payer should apply ED!! ED is not a boost at ivies and top schools. It's when they take two-thirds of recruited athletes, scores of legacies, development candidates and the other connected. That is why the admission rate LOOKS higher.

first off i mentioned this in the EDIT. secondly a lot of them are still need-blind. I dont know what you are taking about.

ED is a better chance trust me. If you are prepared, your chances are better.

Can you give us some proof other than your opinion?

My financial aid offers from Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton varied considerably because they each use different methodology although all are need blind.

why should we trust you?

Anyone tempted to believe the OP should call the schools and directly ask them.

i believe you still get some financial aid even if you apply ED

you do, but it might not be enough, and you'd be in quite the pickle if you were bound to go there but didn't have enough money.

Genuinely insufficient financial aid does allow students to decline an ED offer. And may schools are EA, which would also allow the student to apply elsewhere if the aid offer was inadequate.

depends on the school. Harvard and Princeton both admitted they felt ED to be unfair, so they're eliminating it. In contrast MIT believes (and I believe they're right) that they have a good enough system that ED is not an advantage.

No school will admit this and I personally don't believe this is true.
