High workload? high school without DEBATE is nothing

I seriously envy my non-debater friends. Debate in my state is very intense and competitive.

Any debaters (esp. policy) here?

I took debate last year…it took up a whole lot of time. It’s not very competitive in my state but our school is just really motivated and likes to do well. We like to win :)

…I stayed up really really late before many tournaments to do some additional research/revise our plan…etc. Man, it was stressing! And we would practice on the bus…and get annoyed at people for reading their cases too loud and it was tiring. And then the debates lasted pretty late and we would have to wake up early the next day for semifinals/finals so on top of being stressed and already tired, we barely got any sleep (…we usually had a little party after the tournaments as well! haha). And then on Sunday, we had to scramble to get our hw done…

It was pretty bad! Juggling debate/my other ECs, and my hw was crazy so I had to give up debate this year because my classes are a lot harder this year. I really wanted to do it though…I’m considering it senior year but …it would make life very difficult…

i dont, but one of the judge’s at a comp was named mr. Jesus

Amen to the op

debate is win.

anything in forensics is murder.

i did original oratory, poetry, prose intrepretation, public forum debate, duo intepretation, dramatic intrepretation, student congress, and impromptu speaking

needless to say, my entire team was shocked when i quit. and i suddenly have more free time than i know what to deal with. not to mention i am actually doing my homework for once in my highschool career.

AcaDec workload > debate workload

I used to be in debate because I had an arrangement with the coach that someone else would provide my aff’ case every Saturday. I used to be damn good at it.

Yeah I hear you. I would do policy if we had it in my state, but they axed it just as I became a freshman. The workload is pretty intense though, even for those of us not obsessed with collecting massive boxes of information.

No man, you guys are getting it all wrong. Policy debate is about presentation. Most of the judges are non-professional volunteers that don’t give a ***** about the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Just put on a good show.

Classic debate FTW

lol yup im a debater

I did policy debate for 3 yrs… The time spent in practices, outside work preparing/updating affs every week, especially the time at tournaments every single Fri/Sat for a couple months was insane! I’m glad I decided not to do it this year.
