Higher Income for Questbridge?

Could you qualify for Questbridge with a higher income if you’ve underwent extenuating circumstances? My father passed away from cancer this summer, and I miss him so, so much… He had a high paying job before he passed, but now it’s just my mom supporting out family. She makes 80K/year, but we have a ton of costs to pay off from my dad’s stay at the ICU and other medical expenses. I also have a younger sibling who has yet to apply to college. Questbridge asks for the tax returns from 2015, which doesn’t accurately present my current situation. I’ve already started my application, but before continuing, I wanted to confirm that I’m even eligible for this program (I need to finish CommonApp, too… :/) Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you may still qualify. Worth a shot.

"Financial Qualifications
Finalists typically come from households earning less than $65,000 annually for a family of four, and often less. This is not a strict cut-off and we encourage students who feel they have faced significant financial hardship to review these financial details carefully to see if they may qualify. "

My condolences for your loss, and hug your mother and sibs. My husband died suddenly while my two children were in school. It makes for a compelling personal story and renders us eligible for lots of programs (EFC $0, and we weren’t before.) However, no one ever wants to join this club this way.

Just keeping up the grades, and I know you are helping around the house too, is a major accomplishment and you should be justly proud. Applying for these scholarships really helps you and your family.

Hang in there, best of luck.

Hey I now I’m wicked late on this thread but I’m dropping in anyways. My dad also passed from cancer, had a high paying job, left my mom with me and my little siblings. It’s weird how similar we are. His life insurance policy was pretty huge (a little under a million; he was really sick for like 8 years) so I qualify for literally zero FAFSA or PROFILE help because they see that money and say “this girl is a millionaire.” Meanwhile, my mom’s income is around $20k so not that much and the 1mil is all my mom and brothers and myself have to survive off of for food, housing, education, expenses, damage from blizzards, all costs, etc. I work like 25 hours a week because I’ve got to pay for my own stuff because even though we’ve got “all this money” we can’t actually take from it because it’s all my mom will ever get.

I still applied to QB this year. obviously, if I don’t get it, then QB looked at my situation and was kinda like “she’s not too bad” but I hope they don’t Because without a scholarship I really can’t go to college without devestating my family and screwing my brothers over for their education and future.

Anyways, just thought that by sharing it might make you feel better. I really do understand where you’re coming from and I’m sorry your situation sucks right now. I really miss my dad too. It really sucks alot. PM me? Good luck with your results later today, I hope we both get it

@norepinephrine Hope you got in. Even if you didn’t, if you’re a competitive applicant, you can still get into these selective schools with the common app. They all have great financial aid.
