Highest & lowest acceptance / deferred - denial

Highest & lowest acceptance / deferred - denial

Just out of curiosity, so far, what has been the lowest GPA/SAT score accepted
and the highest GPA/SAT deferred / denied.
I believe that I have read that some poor guy here had a 4.0 & a 2010 and still get deferred !

I'll go first-
My classmate got accepted with a weighed 3.7 & 1820

Just curious, but what exactly is the point of this thread? There’s already the accepted/deferred/denied thread, which seems to serve the same purpose.

Plus, since GPA and SAT/ACT score aren’t the only things considered by FSU when offering admission, just because someone has a good GPA and a good test score doesn’t mean they will be offered admission.

Someone here had a stellar profile but also had 3 D’s and was deferred (or denied).

i got accepted for summer and still in the process for CARE, but my weighted gpa is 5.8 and unweighted is 3.8 and my highest ACT is 26, my SAT sucked so bad! lol But you have to remember the essay/resume if u chose to do that.

you cant possibly have a weighted fsu gpa of 5.8. the highest it goes is 5.0 and that is if every single class you took you got an a and it was ap , ib , aice or dual enrollment. I seriously doubt that anyone falls into that category

5.8 is only average in some school districts like Hillsborough County, Florida. This weighted GPA stuff is out of control; schools should just stick with 4.00 being perfect A’s and skip all the inflated craziness.

[How one student got an 8.5 GPA](http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/news/local/hillsborough/how-one-student-got-an-8.5-gpa-06012011)

oh no i have no idea what the FSU gpa is, but from what my school has given me that is what I have. Plus I may be higher b/c I have taken 64 credits of college courses.

I am out of state, away from the land of inflated gpas lol. I got in for summer with a 3.3. The school I go to is very good though, it’s 200 something out of 27,000 nationwide high schools.

@Tallalassie: But, wait, I thought it was better to get a sub par grade in a particularly challenging class then to get a perfect grade going the easy route! Why am I in IB??

^ I get where you’re coming from. I’m just saying there is little uniformity with seemingly arbitrary calculations of GPAs used at various schools. Using a standard 4.00 system might lend more uniformity. Course work evaluation, school evaluation, rigor of study programs like IB, etc. need to be measured alongside GPAs to better determine a student’s academic achievements in school.

Thanks for responding and I thank you for understanding my question as it appears that some prospective freshman students were rejected from FSU that in my opinion should of had been accepted. I honestly don’t believe that grades should be the main criteria for gaining acceptance into college as their appears to be widespread grade inflation in most public high schools.
The only real standardized measure to ensure fairness during the application process would be offering everyone a standardized test such as the ACT and or SAT were everyone is offered the same test under the same testing circumstances as these test should be the main criteria for measuring academic success in college. There was one poor guy who listed his SAT as 2010 and was rejected with a good GPA and I believe that an SAT score of 2010 has demonstrated that this applicant can successfully complete an academic college course load as opposed to high school candidate that takes easy IB courses and receives very high GPA and poor SAT scores.

I think that GPA, when adjusted for uniformity, is the single greatest indicator of a student being prepared to successfully complete college course work. Honors, AP, and IB classes represent a tougher curriculum and should be calculated differently than standard course work. FSU and UF, for example, have their own standards of calculation to account for the difference that should be a guideline for state high schools. A +.5 and +1.0 for Honors and APs respectively is reward enough for the dedicated student that wants to challenge themselves and differentiate themselves from the crowd.

In my opinion, a high school transcript showing a four-year history of classroom excellence determined by GPA and curriculum rigor severely trumps any standardized test score. Especially one that can be gamed by paid prep courses, multiple attempts, and even in some cases having a proxy take the test.

FSUDAD1, I agree. GPA (accomplishment, getting right things done, and being effective) > Aptitude Test Scores (potential).

“easy IB courses”
Such as what? Been there, done that. There is no such thing as an “easy IB course.”

And just because you feel that someone should have gotten into FSU does not mean that the people that know what they are doing felt the same way.
A good GPA or SAT/ACT score does not make an application. The people in question that have posted all appear to have had less-than-stellar grades in some classes- and one person had apparently THREE of these grades.
