Yea I don't think "High-Priority" makes any difference. The letter was also a bit apologetic, as it was explaining why this happened, (they did not forecast the huge # of students that would apply to UMich and apologized for any inconvenience)

Well I guess thats the end of the UMich saga for me! :)

@tom1030
Well I guess it's a bit easier to say that because I'm an international and leaving with a six figure debt doesn't really suit my style. Good luck you guys!

well i found out that i got wait listed through WA but u only get the "high-priority" part through mail. CanuckBreakwater... the decisions were due April 15th.. you should call.

Oh...way to confuse the students and seem ambiguous...

Anyway, do any of you know if the wait list students are picked according to region? If, for example a student from Brazil declines their admission and another student waitlisted in Brazil gets accepted because of this...?

No matter how many waitlists you are on, you are still expected to pay a deposit to a school that admitted you, and to do that by May 1st. If a school admits you off their waitlist after May 1 (and that's usually when it happens), then you have a choice--you can send a deposit to that school (and, usually, lose the one you put in elsewhere) or decline and stick with your original plans.

It's how the waitlist works.

You MUST deposit somewhere. Do NOT hold off sending a deposit to a school just because you hope to get off the waitlist somewhere else. Just because a school says they'll notify you after May 1 DOES NOT MEAN that they expect you to NOT deposit elsewhere, or that they DON'T UNDERSTAND the May 1 deposit deadline. It's nationwise and governed by NACAC agreements. Michigan IS NOT TELLING YOU TO NOT DEPOSIT ELSEWHERE. Please don't make this mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!
