Highschool Internships

Hi there, I know I am only a highschool internship, but I was wondering if there were any internships available for rising juniors and seniors in the fields of business and finance in the Washington DC area?

I once heard of this piece of technology called a “Google.” I am not sure what it is, or how it works, but as legend goes, if you type in random words in a “search bar” you actually have a better chance of finding what you search for than by asking someone else to do it for you…

Honestly, that was the best approach to your question. Your a big boy, look it up yourself. Considering D.C. is traditionally a political epicenter, there may be some opening, but I would stick to gaining a better network of Congressmen, most are corrupt anyway.

Wow that was a harsh reply, mbg111. Hi Rurouni, it can be daunting to know how to find that first internship. One thing you can do is google around like mbg111 suggested. There’re governmetn websites with internships, try SCA too. There are National Parks with internships. There are societies and associatins galore in DC. Contacting them individually and checking out their websites may land you a position for the summer. A second strategy is to ask the parents of everyone you know whether they know of an internship opportunity. That’s called networking. Networking is one important way to get a job. As you get older, you will need that skill. Basically you ask someone if they know someone who works in DC. At first they’ll scratch their heads, but then they go, Oh yeah. My old pal from college works there in a think tank. Let me give you his/her name. You then ask that person if you can work there for the summer. If they say no, then you say, thank you for your time. Do you know of anyone else I can talk to? And: May I keep in touch with you in the future? You want to keep a list of all of your contacts. The world is small. If they don’t have a job this time, your nice friendly notes that come every 6 months or so will keep you in their minds. When there is an opening, they may offer it to you. Rule of thumb: always be looking for your next job and do it through networking. Good luck! Don’t let the snarky comments get you down.

Thanks dustyfeathers appreciate the reply
