Highschool Math Question

Does taking Calc BC in junior year (instead of senior year) help at least a little bit for getting into top schools?

You’re asking if someone taking AP calc junior year has an advantage over one taking it senior year?

I highly highly doubt it. All that shows is that you did well in middle school and got put in accelerated math. Wouldn’t be fair to younger kids etc… HOWEVER the fact that you will be able to take a more advanced course (if your school offers it) will put you in a better position. But just based on what year you take the class? No it will not help you. It is the same course for Juniors/Seniors either way… the same applies to someone who takes AP Theory Sophomore year and someone who takes it Senior year. No difference, all that matters is the final grade in the class. (Though as I mentioned your senior year WILL be open for a more advanced math class… my school offers AP Stats)

I’m taking both AP Calc and AP Stats next year… since I was an idiot in middle school and didn’t get picked for the program. Besides the AP Stats teacher being the greatest guy in the building, I don’t want to be put at a disadvantage because of a stupid “you’re a genius, in elementary school!” program. I constantly outperform people who are a year ahead of me in math on PSATs/SATs, which is amusing.

No, it won’t. It’ll just allow you to take a higher math course as a senior if you so desire.

And for senior year, say i did decide to try for calc bc in junior year, should i probably do ap stats and another more advanced math class from a local community college?
