Im senior in high school, school started 3 weeks ago, and im not feeling the high school vibe, I have a 3.8 gpa taking two AP classes( calculus and physics) and need 40 more units. Would taking the chspe and leaving highschool work for me positively or negatively. I plan on going to a UC after high school but if i pass the CHSPE, which i most likely will, would i still have to go to a community college and for how long would i have to go so i can transfer to a UC.

Hello. If you pass CHSPE and get out of high school without graduating, chances are, unless if you score incredibly highly on SAT and ACT, you won’t be able to UC’s, because some of them do not accept CHSPE and many of them avoid CHSPE holders. Therefore, you will have to go to a community college and will have to stay there for a year or two until you will be able to go to UC schools.

I must say, 3.8 GPA after taking two AP classes is actually impressive, and you should find a way to recover those 40 units, by online courses (I’m not sure about this) or other alternatives, rather than getting out of high school with CHSPE – because doing so would be waste of years in community colleges.

Transfer to a home-school or online-school situation and take a couple of classes at the local community college, if you feel you are too mature to hang around High School Students.

Just to be clear, the proficiency exam sets a low bar to ensure minimum proficiency. It is to prevent high schools from graduating students without properly educating them. Think of it as the “do you have any felonies on your record” job application question. It is a minimum bar to achieve, and is more a test of whether the which school can release you than a test of your ability. (virtually) Nobody doesn’t pass the CHSPE.

The GED, or General Education Development test, is not esteemed as highly as a diploma, but does allow an exit from high school for those who cannot complete a curriculum.

IF you get into a UC with this approach, think about your classroom experience. Might you have your head handed to you on a plate if you do not properly prepare? Would you enter the olympics with a certificate of completion from a YMCA class? Would it even be fun to always be lost and unable to catch up?
