So it seems like Hilfinger is teaching cs 61b in the fall, and after reading his reviews, i'm terrified... :p I'm a Cog Sci major who's considering making computational modeling my focus, so I'll need to take 61b eventually... Next fall I'll be in my Junior year though, so I need to hurry up and get through 61b so I can take cs 188... But yeah, anyone have experience with him? I'll probably have to take math 55 in the fall as well, so I'm thinking it might be suicide for someone like me (who doesn't have that much math experience) to take Hilfingers 61b along with 55... Spring semester is usually lab though, so yeah... Any advice? :)

I took 61b with Hilfinger and liked it. That being said, I’m an EECS major and I had years of programming experience (including Java) when I took it. His exams are difficult and his projects are long. However, because people get dismal scores on his midterms he does give out lots of extra credit. When I took him he basically gave us a whole exam-A-grade for free just for filling out the course survey. So he “curves” indirectly. If you’re willing to put in some more work you’ll be okay. Not fine, but okay.
