I've been assigned to Hill. Can anyone cue me in on some pros and cons? I'm pretty upset because I was hoping for quad.

lol I don’t go to Penn, but I stayed in Hill for a week this year while visiting a friend, and it was extremely traumatizing to say the least. It’s dark, dirty and somewhat cramped. The majority of people who live there, including my friend, grow to LOVE the community there though. And you guys have fairly decent parties too. Also, it’s like 90% freshman while the other dorms are mixed. Plus, you guys have a dining hall.

lol i hope that helped somewhat. :)

I lived in Hill last year and had a bit of trepidation as well. However, I can easily say it was one of the best things to ever happen to me and really added a lot to my freshman year. Our suite was extremely close-knit and many of my friends from the Quad preferred to spend their time in Hill. If I had a choice to go back and change it, I absolutely wouldn’t.

You’ll love it.

Plus, you don’t have the rodent and bug problems that the 100+ year old Quad does.

Hill is a dungeon

For most people, hill is one of the best things that has ever happened to them. I lived there this past year. I am not sure who hosted you, but the kids I had absolutely enjoyed it. Not only will you leave your first year knowing so many more people, you will find people that will actually stay friends the whole 4 years. Although my initial expectations were low, I was surprised to have enjoyed my experience there so much. Only people who have lived in hill can give you the experience. The dining hall in the bottom floor is very convenient especially in the winter when it is very cold to go outside.

Furthermore, hill tends to have a high rate of pledges in frats, so this can leave you with friends in many of the different frats, who can help you get into parties. The environment is very social and at times, I found it so social that it was hard to do work. Just remember to enjoy yourself. Hill is hot the first week or two, but then it becomes amazing. Try to meet everyone in Hill and I guarantee you will have an awesome experience.

Hill’s not as horrible as it’s made out to be. Most people don’t spend much time in their room anyway between clubs, greek life, friends, etc. It’s funny too people who have lived in Hill make it out to seem as if they’re the only freshmen who have friends in their hall.
