Last year, Puzzles Caf

yeah puzzles majorly sucked this year. might as well have kept it closed. sweets/deserts would be interesting.

"in-house" pastries... iono if I like the sound of that.

How about upgrading the "Asian food" at Rendezvous instead?

A couple questions...

A) What are they renovating the resident halls for?

and

B) Do they have sushi at UCLA? If so, how is it?

A) What are they renovating the resident halls for?
[/quote]

You probably mean why? Sproul Hall is very old. Old buildings need to be renovated. Same story for Rieber Hall very soon.

The major reason though, is that there is not enough on campus housing for students to live in a desired comfortable condition. Making Sproul Hall available again would probably accomidate 2000 students.

It will be open again mid-June 2008.

During lunch on special weekdays. I forgot the days, but I know Monday is one. It is not good enough to be worth buying, but since it's free, it's decent.

Thanks BH. I live right on the coast so I enjoy sushi, but no big deal that it is nothing special at UCLA. Sushi is a good treat but definitely something that I can live without for a while.

BTW, so is the food at UCLA bad? It seems like I'm getting mixed answers. For the most part this board seems to dislike it, while those videos (TheU? Or something like that) say it is good. The places also looked pretty decent on the UCLA website.

keep in mind that TheU is promotional material and isnt a totally accurate depiction of anything.

the food is good compared to most schools. very good, actually. but other schools suck a lot, so the bar isn't too high. and anyway, anything you eat over and over again is going to seem boring or bad or whatever after a while. that's just the nature of dorm food.

Foreign students who are here in the summer, and soon to come orientation students would think UCLA food is very good. Or maybe extremely delicious. It is true at first; most of the food is not slopily done.

However, they sometimes change the names of the food, but it's the same plate. Food cycles probably between 2-3 weeks, so sometimes it's boring.

Especially Peruvian beef. It's also been called Colorado beef, Cantonese beef, Thai beef, etc. Same stuff.

Nevertheless, better than UCSB's reusing of food. They have beans for breakfast, leftover refried beans for burritoes for lunch, and leftover beans for another Mexican dish for dinner.

thats the grossest thing ive ever heard omg.

Thanks guys...so which restaurant is the best on the UCLA campus?

it's a close race between deneve and covel for me, with covel getting the nod.

i really don't like the food here. one note crossroads food sucks and so does most of what they serve at rendevous.

the breakfast is pretty good anywhere on the hill though.

i guess i had really high expectations due to the overwhelming hype surrounding the food.

“We’re updating our housing master plan, and we are trying to determine a path forward for the construction of approximately 1,500 new residence hall spaces,” Foraker said. “We don’t have anything approved, but we are well into the planning process.”

Under Construction Like Always :p

but the recycling of food produces less waste

the food is much better in the summer to accomodate the visitors - salmon, fresh seasonal fruits, etc. this is from the horse's mouth. they also get daily maid service, linen exchange, and wakeup calls :P

wow!!1 that's amazing....

Salmon... right.

*** salmon? I always wanted to see what's in the forbidden Covel and De Neve...

Edit: Gee, i never knew w*f was a censored word.

yah... sadly it is. however, w.t.f. is not.

i'm gonna miss puzzles' bbq chicken pizzas, but since imo that was the only thing decent there, ice cream + better desserts is a great trade off!

and i think they're planning to put new buildings over the hill, sort of, behind saxon. there's a whole flat spot back there. but that's just speculation. then again, if that's not what they're planning, i have NO idea where on earth else anything new can go!

looks forward to next year's single room
