Hill v. Cambridge v. South Donahue

Hello all. My son has been accepted, and we are trying to get our housing application submitted within the next couple of days. He seems to be leaning heavily toward the Quad as his first choice and the Village as his second choice. Does anyone have experience or opinions with respect to the Hill, Cambridge and South Donahue? South Donahue looks very nice, of course, but the cost might put it at the bottom of the list.

War Eagle! Absolutely recommend the Quad and you will likely get it this early (my son applied for Quad in Oct and got it). The Village is nice but really like apartments. The Hill are the older dorms, similar to the Quad, maybe a little larger but not well liked (at least by my son’s friends). South Donahue is where the athletes stay and other folk who don’t mind spending a lot on a dorm room that you have to leave during the holidays and don’t even get for the summer. I don’t know anything about Cambridge. Good luck, I hope he gets in the Quad - my son was in Broun Hall for 2 years (they have the activity center on the first floor) and really loved rolling out of bed and 10 steps to the left is Student Center, to the right is the Library, front and back academic buildings, etc. Bring a bike, lots of bike riders …or now I hear they have the bike share program that you just pick up a bike in front of your building and ride it to another building and park it…free.

Thanks! Our fingers are crossed that the Quad will work out for him.

Cambridge is a renovated building from the AU hotel - my friend currently lives there and it is a miserable little place with two students sharing a place smaller than a usual hotel room, poorly lit and hastily thrown together. It’s also technically on-campus, but is in fact across the street from campus borders and is VERY inconvenient in terms of location. Avoid it at all costs.
If he wants the Quad, he definitely has a shot! I’d probably put backups as the Village (nicer/good location) and the Hill (cost efficient). South Donahue will leave anyone not on scholarship with a big chunk of change out of their bank account, but is 100% the most lavish living on campus!
