Hi everyone... I am an applicant from China. I applied to some prep schools this year, and I got accepted to Hill, Porter's, Hockaday and Cranbrook in regular decision, and I was just accepted to Mercersburg(I was in the WL).
Here's what I'm looking for. I wish to attend a school which has a diverse group of people, instead of being all "rich and white"(no offense) since I'm an Asian. I don't like the schools with a bunch of racists... And please compare the academics(I'm good at science/math and history), athletics(I played tennis for 5 years/I'm in my current school Varsity soccer and JV Volleyball), leadership opportunities(I'm in my current school Robotics Team, quiz bowl team and student council as well), etc.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Congratulations on your acceptances. I can only speak to The Hill School. My oldest son goes there, and my middle son will be joining the 9th grade in the fall. If you review some of my earlier posts about the school, it may give you a fuller picture, but we have had a wonderful experience there to date. There is a strong Asian contingent at the school, but everyone seems well integrated. The kids are very friendly, and come off as normal and well-adjusted. As at every boarding school, there are some extremely wealthy families, but they don’t seem to stand out. I do know that a new science center is in the works, and there is an active robotics team (in fact, check out the website. There was just something on there about a competition that the team attended.) Most of the students are involved in sports, and the athletic facilities are very good. A complete renovation of the sports fields in taking place this summer. Hill is a very traditional school (think coat and tie, seated dinners, and weekly non-denominationall chapels), but that is what was appealing to our family. The faculty is top notch, always available and willing to help. Please feel free to pm me for more info, and best of luck on your decision. Go Hill!

Forgot to address soccer. Hill’s team this year is extremely strong, with several nationally ranked players and very strong college recruitment.

Thank you so much! Your information is very helpful. I’m going to the Hill for next school year.

I think you will be happy there. It is a fantastic school and very highly rated.

I’m a current student at Mercersburg and I love it so much! It’s a welcoming community and everybody gets to know each other a lot. There’s definitely going to be different groups but that’s at every school. It’s not cliques at mercersburg but more like different friend groups who are interested in different things but I can honestly say I can start a conversation with everyone at school. I personally love it here and am so glad I chose to go here!
