Hillel info?

Is anyone affiliated with the Hillel at Wheaton? I'd love to hear about how active it is,how many students involved, etc.

My daughter may go there, so I’m interested too. I did find this: [Wheaton College - Small and Mighty](http://www.hillel.org/HillelApps/JLOC/SamCampus.aspx?agencyid=17993)

And there’s a contact listed to whom you could ask your question.

I work at Wheaton, and I solicited this response from Vereene Parnell, Dean for Service, Spirituality, and Social Responsibility:

Hillel is one of two student-run Jewish life organizations, and it has a part-time advisor. Just this year, our student government approved funding for L’chaim, a second club and strong Hillel partner, that focuses more intentionally on secular Jewish traditions, with a secondary focus on dialogue about and celebrations related to Israel. The Office of Service, Spirituality and Social Responsibility (wheatonma.edu/sssr) supports these and other Jewish life initiatives and helps connect co-curricular life with our Jewish Studies Minor, such as our recent gallery talk by Jewish artist Ken Aptekar.

We’re very excited to announce that we will be launching our first Jewish life residential living/learning community in the fall. Centered around one of the lovely houses on campus, the extended Jewish community – and friends – will be able to gather for weekly shabbat dinners and other informal events, as well as co-sponsoring programs with the students and faculty from the Jewish Studies minor and other related classes. One of the unique aspects of the house and extended community is that events will be open to students from other cultural and spiritual backgrounds who are interested in exploring how Jewish life plays out on our secular and multi-faith campus. Long-term plans for the house include (a more exciting name) and the addition of a kosher kitchen.

I wondered if you found any additional information. We just spent the day there today and I believe my daughter is going to say yes. I am planning to contact the Hillel adviser to get an idea of activity and involvement on campus.

prancer, where else is your D considering? Wheaton is one of my S’s two finalists, the other being Ursinus. What was it like there today? We were there during the summer, and my S doesn’t want to visit either school again, so I’m curious what you thought.

She loved it. We were there in November and she felt an instant connection. We went to the accepted students day and she is 99% ready to say send in the deposit. We were supposed to revisit Connecticut College on Minday and she isn’t interested in visiting.

pkdof13 my d also initially considered Ursinus, but didn’t end up applying. I think it depends on interests and location.
