Hillsdale College - anyone interested?

Are we the only family on this board who has a keen interest in Hillsdale College?

I really liked their philosophy when we considered it for my DS. It never made the "short list" though so I only had the basic info. I remember being very impressed. It would not have been a good fit for my DD so we didn't look into it at all this second time around. Be sure to share what you find out. I'm sure other would like to hear more about Hillsdale.

Is very, very interested but isn't sure that she wants to go that far away from home. We're in New York city.

My Son is not interested in Hillsdale, but I have to tell you my experience lately. We live in the next county over. Our high school had their first National Merit in seven or eight years -- and she is going to Hillsdale. (University of Michigan is an hour from here, and that is where most of our top students go.)

I ran into a Hillsdale student in a coffee shop yesterday and got talking to him. According to him, once you get outside Jackson/Hillsdale Counties, Hillsdale College is extremely respected. It's on the same level as the Ivy's (I have a feeling he was biased). He also said it was the most difficult college in Michigan. (Again, maybe a bit biased.)

Just my thoughts of the day

I always wondered about Hillsdale . I went to a private boarding school for high school and quite a few people i know applied and/or matriculated there . I still see it listed on college acceptances for private school kids in New York State .

I have one child at Hillsdale right now, and another one that was accepted, but she is going to the Naval Academy instead. It was a hard choice--she really loves Hillsdale. She got a nice note from them today, saying that they would hold her spot for a year! My dd that is there now, absolutely loves it. She has been challenged far beyond what she expected--from talking to her friends at other schools, it's tough! She arrived in Istanbul today on the school-sponsored junior Honors trip.

If you like Rush Limbaugh, you'll love Hillsdale. I'm from Michigan, and I don't know one single person who has even considered Hillsdale. Our local public and private high schools graduate tons of really bright kids - many go to Michigan, many to Ivy Leagues - but I can't recall any of the top scholars choosing Hillsdale. In Michigan, the most highly regarded institution is, of course, the University of Michigan. Most people I know would say the most highly regarded Michigan LAC is Kalamazoo.

I got into Hillsdale but opted for another conservative LAC. I really liked it though.

Wasn't that the place where the President slept with his son's wife for two decades, and then she shot herself?

Ah, here it is:

To be fair, that is now well in the past, and I would presume they have much cleaned up the act since then. (and I have heard good things about it from conservative friends.)

i just checked out hillsdale... not on the ivy level but it is surprisingly cheap, about 10k less than the midwestern LAC ill be attending

I subscribed to Imprimis on the advice of a local parent. It is usually well reasoned and features the text of a visiting lecturer at Hilsdale. They have their share of NMFs who picked the school for its curriculum and atmosphere. My D wasn't interested, but one of her schoolmates went there.
