Son just sent in his letter declining his spot. The cost was just too much considering his other offers. Plus, he never really had his heart set on Vandy anyway, so it was an easy decision. Lets hope it works out for you, Hilsa!

I just submitted my survey, and highly recommend hilsa in 2 different comment sections. Good luck!

pm her for her real name so you can do the same!

Oh my goodness! I leave for a week and come back to this lovely surprise.

I really do not know what to say… and I’m usually full of words.

But thank you. Thank you so very much.

Really.

I am not even involved (D was accepted, but turned Vandy down last year), but if I could help, I would…now, Brad, come on…you can give Hilsa a spot, right?

I’m declining my spot too if that helps.

Interesting tidbit of information I heard recently:
Although Vandy doesn’t consider demonstrated interest when admitting applicants in ED/RD, they DO consider it for admitting applicants off the waitlist.

And oh boy do we all know that Hilsa has demonstrated interest…

Guys I could use some help too. Hilsa’s not the only one waitlisted, though I concede that she wants to go there much more than I do.

One of Ds classmates will definitely turn Vandy down even though she has not decided where she is going yet. She was admitted early in the MOSAIC program so I don’t know if this would help only minority students who are waitlisted or everybody.

I’m, errr, prolly going to Vanderbilt, but if I WEREN’T, I’d recommend Hillary! Duh.

i’ve been waitlisted, does anyone have any advice on what to do?
my gc says there should be more applicants than usual accepted off the waitlist this year b/c vandy had housing problems last year, plus its price tag and the economy blah blah blah…
so what should i do, this is my number one school at the moment and ive been waitlisted!!

^^^From the Vandy admissions blog:

[The Vandy Admissions Blog Blog Archive What To Do If You’ve Been Waitlisted](What To Do If You've Been Waitlisted | The Vandy Admissions Blog | Vanderbilt University)

To all other waitlisted people, I’ve always felt bad for getting a lot of attention and everyone else hardly getting any. Really. It makes me feel selfish, and that’s just not how I roll. I just talk a lot and love to voice my opinions, so obviously my desire to attend Vandy was pretty blatant, whereas I’m sure there are other silent people who want it just as much as I do.

I miss posting a lot in this forum. But there aren’t really any topics I can post in anymore.

Go to the college life threads. There’s lots of crazy stuff to post on there :)

or go ■■■■■ the ivy league forums…

Silly me at failing at being specific. I meant THIS (Vanderbilt) forum.

I do post in college life (moreso high school life…hehe good times). And of course I occasionally ■■■■■. =]

Hilsa,
Another spot opening up for you, D is going to decline her offer (she was accepted Mosaic into the engineering program). Loved the idea of submitting your name to take her spot…

declining an admission is not “giving some else a spot”. vanderbilt accounted for the yield when deciding how many to admit. so in order for spots to open up, more people have to say no than vandy planned.

this early on, people turning down vandy are just helping the school meet their assumed number of people who do not accept an acceptance.

I think they accepted around 3600 students total, ~3100 RD [assuming that ~500 are from ED (although it may be more)] and the class size of 1550, we waitlisted students are hoping that less than 1000 matriculate from the 3100. That would give Vandy an opportunity to pull from the waitlist.

To reiterate, we waitlisted kids are just hoping that Vandy shot low in accepting students, knowing that they’d rather not get enough matriculating students (and will thereby have to go to the waitlist) instead of overaccepting and getting too many matriculating students. I do think Thom wrote somewhere on the VU Blog that they make their application decisions with the intent of going to the waitlist. Let’s just hope this year is like last year!

Thanks, Cali mom. :)

Hillary you are right. They planned on having less than 1550 accept their invitation. They want the whole class together in the Commons. They dont want 1551, so they plan for less and add as needed. That is also why it is so important for Vandy to know if the waitlisted kids would come if accepted off the waitlist. Good Luck Hillary. I am rooting for you and all the waitlisted kids because you WANT TO GO TO VANDY, not because it is the best economic decision.

Okay, so I called the admissions office to make sure my Ds deposit arrived and was paid (it was). I then asked the receptionist about enrollment and the waitlist. She said it was doing really well and they are already taking people off the list?! I asked her how they were able to do this prior to May 1 and she said it was a kind of rolling process. I have no idea what she meant but I again asked her and she said they were going to the waitlist.
So if you still love Vandy, call them NOW!
Good luck to all.
