Which schools have that nerdy yet cool vibe? Schools that nobody has heard of? Urban schools? Small town schools? Nice campuses? Bookstore overload? Nearby concerts? Or whatever..

Wesleyan, Brown, Vassar, Smith, UChicago and more

Absolutely Carleton! Also Reed, Grinnell, Oberlin.

UChicago, for SURE. All that have been mentioned work.

Clark U., Worcester, MA. Earlham College, Indiana. New College, Florida.

Swarthmore and Haverford meet the critera, I believe. If you want to evaluate the most intellectual schools, you might want to take a look at what undergraduate LACs produce the highest proportional amount of PhDs.

Case Western. The college is on University Circle where the Cleveland Symphony plays.

I can't belive nobody's mentioned Reed yet!

^ post #3 did mention reed, can't you read? :)

Oh, you're right :P

Some other more alternative ones: Bard, Hampshire, Sarah Lawrence.

I'm sure you meant, "Can't you reed?"

/lame

I'd mention Berkeley -- intellectual but cool with lots of bookstores (+ nice campus + urban + lots of concerts).

Bennington all the way! + Hampshire, Reed, Swarthmore and Bates

In the South, William & Mary and Davidson are intellectually cool.

MIT
hmmmm.

Are there any 'bigger' schools that come somewhat close?

^NYU is the closest I can think of. The students are really intelligent and ambitious, but also have an eclectic (often artsy) coolness to them.

And I don't think anyone's mentioned Rice yet, which is a perfect fit. Lots of nerds having lots of fun. ;)

Goucher (10 char).
