Hippies

UMaine - definitely not hippie-types, I don't think.

Got a lot of the feminist, politically-active types, though.

"btw hippies never die"

unless you force them to get jobs and tax them.

i am a freshman in college and currently hating it. not because i dislike college, but because of the specific school i am in. however, i am thankfully transferring out. the only thing is, i don’t know where to transfer to! i am extremely hippie like and carefree, i love nature and try to be as environmentally conscious and active as possible. i love riding horses and bikes, hiking and camping, and just being a part of nature in general. BUT i am not a flaming left wing liberal, and i am trying my hardest to avoid drugs (both my parents are addicts, i myself have already had some problems) and it seems as though every school i like turns out to be socialist, drugged out and extremely expensive. any suggestions?! thanksss.

Yes, Sonoma State as preppy liberal is correct, but not as “hippie”.

UCSC should be a bit higher on the list–but only because the entire population of Santa Cruz still seems to think that they are living in some year between 1965 and 1969.

so I am having the same issue i will be going to college in fall of 2011 and i really want a very liberal, chill, hippie place to be i dont want to be with jocky kids and where is a good one either in new york or just outside because i live in syracuse

Ryan - The start of college is a great time to reassess and set some new goals. Without meaning to be rude, here’s something to consider as you reassess. Anyone who chooses a college on the basis of its tolerance for their drug habit is a loser.

Do skateboarding hippies tend to be gay? Some of these stereotypes are kind of funny. Do lesbians really get into skateboarding?

If you are willing to look outside the eastern coast, you should look at Hendrix College in Arkansas. Right near the Ozark Mountains, very outdoorsy school, laid back (although paradoxically located in a dry county). Its apparantly a very underrated school academically. Also look at schools like Grinnell, Beloit, Colorado College, Macalester, Ripon College in Wisconsin.

Ryan is long gone (two years ago). Bigmtecs brought up the thread again.

Ryan is probably lighting up a fatty about now somewhere…

i’m from there lol:) its more sebastpol thats considered the “hippie area”. &what about berkeley? considering that IS where the student protest movement and hippies started in the sixties.

:)

haha ripon is not so much a typical hippie school.
