are there hipsters at kenyon and if so in what percentage? how “weird” or radical of a place is it?
Kenyon has always had a subculture of interesting/weird students. However, I think this part of the Kenyon undergraduate population dwindled in number after the 70’s and early 80’s. Today, surely at least 25% of the Kenyon undergraduate population must qualify as hipsters in terms of dress/lifestyle. However, I don’t think hipsters are especially weird or radical, given the omnipresence of hipsters in modern American society. I doubt Kenyon has ever had a Science Fiction and Fantasy Theme Dormitory like Oberlin.
One good characteristic, iMO, about Kenyon is it is hard to put a finger on the student body and label it. There’s a little bit of everything, although its not the most racially and ethnically diverse place although the schools is working hard to try to change that. Yes, there are hipsters but they are not a majority presence on campus.
