you do show an upward trend.

thanks elberth, i applied to Cal state at fresno.

im in a similar situation as mario, and i applied to it as A safety/match

I think that a school like Penn takes someone with 1000 on the SAT every once in a while...just to prove that it is possible to get in with that score. Plus you should get into UCI and Fresno State. But Caltech, for example, is not even going to read your application.

Are you a senior in college or high school? By the way, where in Bolivia is "El Corozon"? Happen to be with a friend from Bolivia right now, and he's never heard of it. What city or town is it near?

Ouch......

^Admissions at Caltech is very much a numbers game, so unfortunately, after seeing your SAT I & II scores, they'll probably reject you without second thought.

I Googled "El Corozon, Bolivia". It either doesn't exist, is a VERY small village, or has been absorbed into a larger town/city.

haha, could he be lieing perhaps?

lol no im not. im a senior in high school, and El corozon is a town with about a 2.5 mile radius, its 3 and a half hour drive from La paz. Why in the hell would anyone make a website out of a small village in bolivia. lol

Sorry for dissing you on that spelling yesterday if there is an El Corozon.

El Corozon...I'm just curious. Why didn't you take the SAT II Spanish test? Since Spanish is your native language, I'm sure you would have done really well on that.

but then i'd clearly be taking the easy way out. any native spanish speaker could score an 800 on the sat 2 spanish test

Eh...I suppose you're right. But a 513 is still extremely low for all of the schools on your list except Fresno (which does not even require the SAT II's). An 800 on one test could've really brought that up. And besides, some Asian students take the SAT II Chinese, Japanese, or Korean and the adcons don't frown down upon that.

UCI has something called CAMP-try cking it out. I would guess Fresno would want you. I would want you to be able to enjoy college and not spend every second trying to catch up with the rest of the students. You have been doing better each year, good luck.

oh coo. thanks. i was also wondering how SAT II's came into play with placement and all that. and where what classes would i be in at my reaches?

bump....do i have any shot at a top school?

Don't expect your minority status to help you that much. Your SAT's are far too low for. It is good to aim high, just don't expect any of the Ivies or the even the better California schools to accept you. They might, only they know for sure, but in my opinion you have a very small chance. I think U of C schools don't consider your freshman GPA so that might help you, but those SAT's are going to hurt. From your Senior and Junior years you appear to be a very good student, but those early years are going to hurt. I am sorry.

Chin up though, you are clearly showing an upward trend. Just keep that up and maintain a decent GPA in whatever college you are in so you can go to a very good graduate school if you choose to, or even transfer to a better college if you want to do that.

PS I can empathize with you, I too am an immigrant and I had a very tough time adjusting to school. Thankfully for me, most of the adjusting problems happened in elementary-middle school and not middle-high school.

I'm facing a similar situation, I had a poor freshman/soph gpa (2.8). However I have maintained a 4.0uw average this year, hopefully the same for senior year. I have always taken all honors/APs (2aps this year, 4 next). I got a 202 PSAT, 1470sat1 (have to take new sats shortly). I'm officier of 3 science/math clubs, 2 of which I actually started. I have many national awards in science olympiad, and TSA, including many gold. I also build and compete robots on my own outside of school.

Do you think my upward trend will be enough to compensate for the poor 9th/10th grade gpa? I'm looking to apply to Princeton ED next year. My mom is a professor there, how much will that help?

Thanks for the input, and good luck, el corozon, your upward trend is very impressive!

i really think you should put your sat up.. especially math . its not very hard even if your not good at it. if you cant do that, i dont think you SHOULD go to harvard or any other ivy league even if your accepted.

To be bluntly honest, Your chances at most of your schools, especially Yale, Princeton, Standford and Caltech, are slim to none.

But miracles do happen...sometimes...
