I am an out of state URM and have good grades and good ecs. I would like to hear from Hiapanics about being a minority in:

UNC Chapel Hill
Duke
Wake Forest

Do local whites readily accept you into their social circle? Do you have a problem dating?

I am not a minority myself but I have interviewed at UNC and Duke and gotten a chance to observe race relations at each. Duke seems to have serious problems with "self segregation" of minority students. Surely, you must be aware of the awful rapport Duke has with the town of Durham (as showcased by their lacrosse team). On the other hand, Duke's student population is about 50% minority.

UNC boasts the usual "commitment to diversity" in their admissions materials that all public universities do. Frankly, if I were Hispanic, I might reach out to the Hispanic minority student groups (they have websites) and get in email contact with current students that way. Best of luck.

Your race is only an issue if you make it an issue. "self segregation" can be gotten past easily, just make sure you don't just make friends with your own race if you're worried about that.
