I got rejected by the only Ivy I applied to which was Barnard. But I got into schools like Drexel and Loyola which were reaches for me. I would like to think being latina only helped a bit and they were more interested in my back story. I was diagnosed with a learning diability and for years took those “special classes”, when i scored a high enough to get out of them, I leaped at the chance to take APs. I was a mostly A student at the time (math is my weakest subject) but I wanted the challenge. I became a B/B+ student and in my essay I admitted to that fact, but said it was worth it because I feel like I’m getting what I’m supposed to getting from school: being challenged and learning. Also no one on my mom’s side has gone to college yet, so I wasn’t allowed so much as an inch of wiggle room to go mess around, I had to get to college and go to med school, no ifs or buts about it.
