Hispanics at Texas A&M

I recently got accepted into TAMU and it is one of my top choices. I would like to be very well informed on all my options before i make a decision. I am Mexican and I’ve heard some negative things about students at TAMU being racist. I’ve heard A&M is also very conservative. This sounds like an environment set up to make me feel uncomfortable st all times. Can someone please clarify and further explain the experience of a minority, specifically Hispanic, at TAMU?

A&M has a large and diverse student body with around 20 - 22% hispanic students. My son is a freshman this year and we are hispanic and students and faculty have been friendly and welcoming. When I have gone to visit him on campus and for football games I have noticed that there are all sorts of students and student groups. But don’t just take my or anyone else’s word for it, best thing to do is visit campus and see for yourself.

I believe that there is a foreign students association club that may help you make friends & have a comfortable place to go for guidance & socializing.

@Liusj99 What you heard is true. I have several Latino friends that attended and they told me it’s a can be a very hostile place if you’re not white passing, straight, “conservative”, and obsessed with A&M.

A&M is not a school that is celebrated for its diversity and inclusion … they sometimes try to change that but it’s just not working. There are so many other strong schools in Texas that have a better track record and reputation when it comes to diversity and inclusion.
