Bruinwalk dosent have a record of Meranze. Has anybody had him b4? is he good?

I had Meranze for 13A last year. There’s no question that he knows his material, and he’s very helpful and open to students who come to him during office hours and after class. His lectures aren’t spectacular, however. He uses a powerpoint, but he doesn’t follow it as well as one might like, and his lectures rarely coincide with the assigned readings. To pass the tests, you have to know both his lecture material as well as the reading material. I found the discussion section to be invaluable in preparing for the tests.

As I said, he really knows his stuff. He tends to ramble and is not a great lecturer though, so staying awake can be difficult. If you are really interested in the subject, or really want to get to know a professor who knows a lot about his subject and cares about his students, I would recommend it. If you’re trying to fill a college GE, I would suggest History 1A with Philips.
