Hey everyone!

I am in need of some help choosing a major. I am currently majoring in International Relations and double minoring in Information Security Systems and International Business. However, I have always loved history and travel: they are my two passions in life. I'm debating on changing to a double major in International Relations and History.

Does anyone know how the job prospects differ? I am worried about being able to find a job and being able to make a decent living in history and/or international relations (I know I don't want to be a diplomat). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Both majors are “fine” - either or both. Job prospects will depend upon you and where you “see” yourself and what you would like to do. A lot of IR jobs prefer a masters degree in either IR or PoliSci.

I think you need to decide Gov’t service, NGO’ Think-tanks, Academic, Non-profits. From there you can decide whether to pursue a double major or one major with minors. My “S”'s IR major alllows a lot of options for history electives which could fill your love of history. My “S”'s advisor recommeded 1 major and minor to concentrate on your interests.

You don’t have to a diplomat and work for the State Dept. there are tons of options that will allow you to travel and work. Consider looking into the Peace Corps, USAID etc.

Best of luck
