How's the history department at UCLA? I'm thinking about majoring in history since history has always been my favorite subject in school, and I would love to have some info about what the history classes are like at UCLA so I can get a feel of what I may be getting myself into.

One more question: since Communications seems like a super popular major at UCLA, would it be impossible to double major in history AND communications?

UCLA's history department is pretty good. According to the National Research Council, its the 6th best in the nation, after Yale, Berkeley, Princeton, Harvard and Columbia. It's also ranked #9 by U.S. news and world report. I've closely studied the course offerings and the professors and I expect to classes to be very interesting. That's why I'm taking four history classes in my first fall quarter. :)

Eh..if the reading is interesting, it won't be dry?

And if you want to double with comm, I seriously suggest devoting the vast majority of your energy to getting into comm and doing history as the ancillary major. So like, basically considering yourself a comm major first and history as like the extra stuff, because comm (especially at the lower division) requires a very high level of devotion, effort, and gpa where history doesn't. Also, you can only take two history classes to get credit for comm (the rest have to be in the comm department), so you may not be able to get much overlap unless history lets you get some credit for comm courses (which I can't speak on).
