history day 2006

anyone else involved with history day 2006?

No, but I was in the 2005 version, since all sophomores must take US History, and NHD is required of all AP and Honors students. I never acutally went to the competition as I cared too little about it to be inclined to rework my essay.

what is history day?

Frankbob- NHD is a social studies competition where you put together a documentary, performance, exhibit, or paper on a historical topic. Then you compete against other kids who have done the same. That was kind of a lame description, but check out www.nationalhistoryday.org for better info.

Anyway, yep, I'm involved in NHD. This is actually my 5th year competing. I love it! Last year I was lucky enough to get 2nd at nationals in sr. individual documentary. I'm competing again in that category this year. My topic is Ralph Carr, who was governor of Colorado in the early 1940s. He was one of the only western leaders to oppose Japanese-American internment. Very interesting guy.

How about you, lkgxangie? topic? category? Also, what state are you in, if you don't mind me asking? Like my user info says, I'm in Colorado.

my sophomore son is also participating; here in New England there are fewer participants each year. his topic is guantanamo. it's a great thing for history lovers and i recommend it to entering high school students.

my bibliography is melting my soul.
just thought I'd share.

(regionals are tomorrow, and of course my paperwork is in disarray. lol)

I'm saddened that my two friends from Hawaii and Massachusetts won't be going to nationals, but I think i'm still fired up about my project!

My school has a great number of people that get past states, but few ever win nationals; last year we had four national finalists and two champions.

kman- where are you from? four national finalists and two champions (does that mean first at nationals?) is incredibly impressive!

I'm a junior. This is the first year that my school is involved, actually.
My topic is the 101st troops that helped with the Little Rock Crisis. I was really hoping to write a paper, but my school started too late & the deadline for the paper came way to quickly. So, I'm doing an individual exhibit.

I'm from NJ, btw. :)

never have done anything for history day. ever.

No, I was wrong; last year it was three national finalists. The year before saw one champion. That is what I meant-I saw that one of our groups was awarded fourth, not third as I remembered from my history teacher.

ooh, still very impressive though. do you live in california? i know they have a lot of powerhouse history day schools. Texas too, maybe.
