I'm very interested in Eastern civilizations like India, China, and Japan. Does Emory offer classes in the area? I haven't really found anything on their website about those classes. Do you really learn much from these classes? What's emphasized in the history major? The knowledge?

hey, does anybody know about this?

I don't know much about Emory, but classes like those would be in the History department cross listed with the Asian Studies department, at least that's the way it is at Vanderbilt and Rice. If you are interested in Asian Studies, the schools on the west coast are most likely the strongest in this area. However, Emory must have some of the distinguished Asian studies/History scholars that you can study closely with.

theres an IDS program (interdisciplinary studies) thats really good. my friend is actually doing one, on middle eastern culture and religions. she loves her advisor and the courses shes taking and yeah. its good stuff.
thats all i know/can tell you about that though

Thanks for the responses.

I did check both majors in their course catalog. They don't seem to offer as many classes as the University of Chicago. But hey, I got rejected from there.

what exactly is an IDS program? What do you do?

about the IDS, its like making your own major. i dont know much about the specifics though, just that you meet with an advisor and basically plan your courses with him/her like you would with any major, cept IDS is for something that falls between the 70 some odd majors offered.
or maybe im wrong. all i know is that you can do the IDS program...

There is still life after waitlisting. I don't know about you, but I had several other good offers, so I'll end up taking one of them.
