Any suggestions for a college with a good history program, specifically military and american.

M4L, Didn't I read on the SA forum that you're plannng to apply to USNA?

Are you planning to do NROTC as a backup or will you do the PLC route?

USAFA-I'm majoring in military history. My old roommate selected general history. American history is also offered here.

I'm sure WP also has some good history programs.

Yes I'm applying to USNA, and I'm using NROTC Marine Option as my back up. So looking for a school with NROTC and a good history department.

https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/colleges.cfm

There are a limited number of colleges offering NROTC, so it is easier to research a school that has a good history department. My youngest DD is interested in Marine option NROTC, although she has several years before she gets to that point. It's never to early to start looking though. =)

Is your daughter in MCJROTC or young marines? By the way thank you for the link but i think i've been there more times than I've been here.

She just joined the Young Marines. She's almost 13, so she has plenty of time to change her mind about what she wants to do. But, she's wanted to be in the military/law enforcement field since age 4 or so, and she is fixated on the Marines for some reason. =)

Almost every good college in the country has a good American history program. but military history is so hard to find... outside of the military college, Kansas State supposedly has the best military history department. King's College has a a good war studies degree, but it's in the UK.

M4L, not that your major isn't important, it is, but maybe you should concentrate more on comparing the different NROTC programs. I think they can vary widely. For instance, I know my S's NROTC battalion has quite a few Marine option students but some schools could have very few and you might not be happy there even if they have the best history dept. ever.

All schools offer a history major but your first job out of school will be Marine Corps officer so it would stand to reason that you should be looking more closely at the Marine options at the various NROTC schools. You will find that you will get quite a bit of military history in your required ROTC classes and labs.

You say your son's NROTC unit had alot of Marine Options. What college did he go to?

North Carolina State University.
