Any History transfers get accepted to UCLA? Care to share stats/advice? Anyone with any ideas? Desperate for information! (applying either for Fall 2010 or 2011).

I was accepted as History major. I plan to double major in Communication Studies.

Stats
GPA: 3.83
Pre-reqs: Will be completed at the end of spring
Essay: Excellent (if I do say so myself)
EC: Work (I worked full-time for years, quit, then started working part-time in the transfer center at my CCC), volunteer 4 hrs/mo at an animal shelter
No TAP

Honestly though, I am waiting to hear back from Cal. I applied as a Media Studies major there and I think I would rather take that route.

kc_sunshine, Comm. Studies along with Biz-Econ are two of the most impacted majors at UCLA. I do not think you can get into the program unless you were accepted outright. I believe Comm. Studies is the only L&S Major that does not give any priority to TAP students.

I was also accepted as a pre-history major this year at UCLA.
Stats:
GPA: 3.5
Pre-Reqs/IGETC: Completed as of Fall 2008
EC: Just work experience throughout attending CC.
TAP Certified

4 UCs in, only Cal left.

I already spoke to someone very reputable @ UCLA and a double major is possible if you complete all of the requirements for the first major, have all the Comm pre-reqs completed and have a high GPA. You just have to petition and it has to be approved.
:-)

Gotcha! Hope you get into it :].

Thank you. I do too. I would be taking a HUGE chance, but studying at UCLA would be an amazing experience even if I can’t get it approved.

I was accepted as a History major as well…
3.5 GPA
TAP certified
I thought my essays were really good…
President of a club on campus and I had some volunteer work
AP english and spanish creds
All pre-reqs done
Taking my last IGETC class now (College Algebra)

All I can say is make sure that you do TAP!

History Major
3.9 GPA
Strong Essays (or so i was told)
EC: Work 40+, competitive figure skater, taught skating to kids for free.

Advice: im sure TAP helps but its not needed. honestly, just keep your grades up and finish IGETC and major pre-reqs

Pre-History
Stats:
GPA: 3.6
Pre-Reqs/IGETC: Completed Spring 09
EC: Work Experience
NOT TAP certified

I’m a good writer, but I can’t judge my own essays…

I’m also older (22) and wiser… I think they like that, if that’s any help to any older people wondering if they can get in.

TAP is so easy, why not just do it?
That’s why I totally recommend it…!
Being tap certified just made me feel better about my chances, I am seriously really glad I did it.
On another note, do not leave your math or english IGETC for last minute! Right now I’m stressing out about my college algebra class and it sucks that I just can’t relax even after I have been accepted! :/
