I was just wondering if anyone could recommend summer programs for high schoolers interested in history. I'm trying to research different programs for next summer. Any help and suggestions are welcome. Thanks!
Also, does anyone know anything about the Congressional Academy for American History and Civics? It keeps showing up when I Google, and I was wondering if anyone has any more info on it. How competitive is the application process? Is it a worthwhile and prestigious program? Thanks again!

From their website:

Sounds pretty good to me. It seems somewhat (fairly?) competitive, too, and it’ll be worthwhile if you’re interested in that sort of thing.

Hello, I am the assistant director for a summer program at the united nations. If you are interested not only in history but the current hot internatonal topics, I highly suggest you contact me at jenny@mmcnyc.com. Visit our website at mmcnyc.com! As you know history directly affects the politics of today!

I was accepted into Congressional Academy. Didn’t get to go b/c of prior commitments but have heard great things from those who did. It is really selective and I would advise you to try out for it. I think I got in because I have taken as many AP History courses as possible and have made high A’s in all of them. (They specifically ask you for your grades in all history classes taken). You also have to write a good essay and get a teacher rec, so I would definitely make sure to get on your history teacher’s good side next year, since he/she will probably be the one writing your rec.

But there are a few other history programs that you should check out. The first three are history-centered, while the others are more government/philosophy related, but still worthwhile b/c they are free and/or prestigious especially at HYP
