Hit and Run?

Alright, so here's the story. I'm driving home from a party (not drunk or anything) and i'm going down this narrow street. There are a bunch of parked cars on the side of the road (or lack there of) and as i'm driving by them i feel a small jolt to my car and i see something fly up from my right. I look over and see my right mirror is folded backwards and i keep driving for a little bit and my conscience starts to nag at me. So I stop and call my dad and ask him what to do after explaining the situation. He says it probably just folded the other person's mirror back. Now i'm positive it wasn't enough of a jolt to be anything else since i inspected my car and the only thing wrong was the mirror folded back. No dents scratches or otherwise but i swear i saw a small piece of glass flying after i felt the jolt. Now after i stopped and called my dad (illegal to talk and drive at the same time and I'm not about to risk something else.) I just kept driving. Now my conscience is nagging at me again and I really don't want a felony down on my, or my dad's record for smashing my mirror into another person's mirror. Mind you the car was parked and I don't think anyone was there to witness me hit it or probably didn't have time to get the license plate. But what should I do here? I want to minimize if completely negate the consequences for something this minor which could end up a huge problem. Should I call the police and confess and then pray that no one reports a hit and run? Do you think that the person will even bother calling in something that minor? Is it possible I hit something other than the mirror? Any advice is highly appreciated right now. Thanks

Edit: Also, I'm 18 and just graduated from high school about to go into college and would rather not have my insurance go up either. I'd be willing to pay for any damages to the car if i could find the person I hit.

i doubt anyone saw it, and it’s not even worth reporting imo

I believe that the law states that if you cannot find the owner of the car you are liable to leave a note. By law, you are also obligated to report all accidents, even if they weren’t your fault. If the event occurred some time ago though, I doubt that the owner would report it, they just likely wouldn’t be too content with the “culprit.”

OP you’re such a bamf.

Depends on the state road laws.

^^hahahaaaaha i just laughed

I bet you hit a person, like a small child.

Nah, don’t call, don’t freak, chill out man. DO NOTHING. Tell your conscience to shut the hell up. I accidentally hit the edge of a car while backing out once, I just drove away after seeing there wasn’t anything noticeably done (like, the smallest scratch on that car and mine). You’re young, this stuff happens, you’re supposed to just ignore it.

But, if you do call the cops about this, I’m sure they’d get a laugh out of it “Like, hey other officer! Get this: some kid just called freaking out to report their accident over scrapping someones car with their mirror! HAH!”.

Here’s what you do when you hit a car:

You write them a note so people think you’re leaving your insurance information, but you write something completely irrelevant, like “sorry for the damage, and happy holidays!”. You get off without a scratch, even if someone saw you do it.
