Tragic. Crappy area.

aw thats so sad

where and when?

[Hit-and-run driver kills USC student, injures second victim [UPDATE] | L.A. Now | Los Angeles Times](<a href=“Archive blogs”>Archive blogs)

The worst part isn’t what’s in the title, its the fact that the car stopped, passenger got out, pulled the second victim (injured) off of the windshield onto the street at 3AM. I hope they kill both the driver and passenger.

That’s so f’ed up…

damn, that’s horrible. =( ^I don’t believe in capital punishment, but I hope that the driver gets caught.

The accident occurred while both students were in the middle of the crosswalk at Hoover and Jefferson. This thoroughfare is used by thousands of students every day. Although it was very late at night, there were several other students that were walking back to the campus after attending parties on the row. The young man, Marcus Garfinkle, who was callously thrown from the car’s windshield, is the best friend of my daughter’s former boyfriend. Marcus and Adrianna were both freshmen and were spring admits, so there time at the university has been so brief. It is so tragic. My heart goes out to the Bachan family.

Story and video from this morning’s press conference:

[USC Annenberg TV News](http://www.atvn.org/index.php/news/story/)

My sincere condolences to the families. What a tragedy. I am so sorry to hear this news.

So heartwrenching. On my way to class I biked past the intersection right before the news conference and I saw the mother sobbing. It broke my heart. I hope they catch the scumbags who did it.

it’s just awful…I can only hope the injured guy recovers…

The girl I sat behind in 10th grade english died the same way, hit and run, late at night, on a crosswalk near her university (not USC). Fortunately, in that case they caught the guy, unfortunately, it doesn’t change what happened.

****ing south central LA. Hasn’t changed much at all, has it?

Vitare, don’t jump to any conclusions. There is no indication at this time that the perpetrators are what/who you are imagining.

[Arrest made in fatal USC hit-run - LA Daily News](http://www.dailynews.com/ci_12063909?source=rss)

Awesome information Columbia_Student. Great job LAPD. Let’s let justice take its course now.

Fight On!

Vitare, I think it has less to do with being in South Central and more to do with being in a big city in CA (CA has about 8% of the hit and runs)
I think the biggest reason is drunk driving (as well as street racing, unlicensed drivers, stolen vehicles etc.) and drunk driving is def. not limited to the areas near 'SC.

I hope we get some red light traffic cameras up…not sure if it would deter something like this from happening, but at least we’d have a better shot of finding the people who did this.

I think surveillance cameras would work just as well. Sometimes traffic gets held up at the intersection due to the fire engines being called out, which could lead to more red light tickets than necessary.

I wonder if this will spur more support for the USC Master Plan…

The USC administration proposed a master plan for the future of the university back in ~2006 - a major component of that was narrowing Jefferson to two lanes. One major reason was that as more and more people cross Jefferson, having a 4-lane road became a safety issue.
