Hitting a score wall??

Hello CC
I started practicing for the sat as a junior

first practice test.
cr-690
m-480
w-670(no essay just mc score)
As you can see I pretty much fail at math or at least sat math...
I practiced a lot got the blue book and Princeton reviews cracking the sat was helpful
I took the real thing twice
cr-700/750
m-580/610
w-610/600

I really really would like at least a 650 in the math section but its like I hit a score wall I cant get any higher than 610 =(

is it hopeless? I mean 480-610 is a huge leap but the a lot of the schools I'm aiming for have 650-700 as the 50th percentile.
Have I hit a scoring wall?
Is it worth retaking just for one section?
Will they see the 750 in cr and overlook the low math score?
I've never had an actual tutor since i can't really afford it but maybe I'll need on after all or is tutoring just a wast of money?

Get Gruber’s Math Workbook for Math and read Sparknotes’ Seven Deadly Mistakes and Silverturtle’s Writing Guide for Writing.

Also, your score can be superscored depending on which colleges you are planning on applying to.

Your critical reading score is amazing; good job!

I have also heard that Gruber’s Math Workbook is good for math, but Gruber’s Complete SAT Study guide is helpful for everything. You may have hit a block, but as you keep practicing, figure out and learn why you missed what you missed. That’s the most important thing. Good luck!

Whether these scores are good enough or not depends on what you plan to major in. If you are planning to major in English, History or Philosophy you are probably in good shape. On the other hand if you are intending to major in Physics a 610 in math would not make you a strong candidate.

I’ve found that a higher CR score usually indicates aptitude for the math section. I know this sounds strange, but they both have a decent relation to IQ.

CR is more of an innate talent section. Math requires familiarity and practice. I think you simply need to go through more math sections. Learn shortcuts, formulas, and familiarize yourself with the questions. The SAT math is very repetitive.

I scored 730 CR on my first PSAT (cold), and 630 on math. I brought the 630 math to consistent 770/800’s with practice. Good luck :)
