Hitting the Send Button

I would draw the line 2 days from now and send. There will be a PACK of sends the last 2-3 days. Now is still earlier than most. SEND.

memake, pick the take with passion. Technique can be improved, but passion comes from within.

(And what a wonderful concerto!)

My d hit the send button Mon night (one university - rolling admission); she hit the send button last night (one university - early action); she will hit the send button tonight ... you get the idea. She is sending the Common App to six schools one at a time. She is choosing to send one each night, so she can look over the admissions requirements and note any supplements, etc. that still need to be completed.

To be honest, I can't stay in the room when the send button is hit, and at this point will never look at the Common App again. (If an error is there, I do not want to know.) On the other hand, d is pretty relaxed about the whole process and pushing the send button is not at all dramatic for her.

We had lots of technical problems sending at the last minute on a popular due date. It was so traumatic I've blocked out most of the details, but I do remember staying up a lot later than I should on a work night. I'm not sure I could have convinced my d to finish a day or two ahead, but it would be worth it if you could.

oldfort, you make so much sense. I know that she wants this school (and she's gotten me on board as well) so strongly we want to just will it to happen. But I know you're right. One thing I have insisted on is that she follow thru with interviews for her B list schools and we're collecting anything we get in the mail from them as well, but I know that's not what takes the real effort. And I hate to say it, that if she doesn't get into this school, most of her B list would be pretty iffy. We have a couple of safer ones, but, oh the drama. I'm exhausted!

Just make sure she checks and double-checks. My son made a last-minute edit to the supplement for his first choice, which was somewhat of a reach. I was looking it over and told him it needed some work. He got mad and hit send. Unfortunately, he then found out there was a major problem (part of a sentence missing). He said he thought he could still edit it, but of course once you send you are done. He had to send the revised version via snail mail. Needless to say, he did not get in (not necessarily just for that reason). It all ended up well as he got a nice merit package at a good school and it would have been very unlikely he would have attended first choice due to COA.

Thanks to your encouragement, the SCEA went out today--a whole 2 1/2 days early! Thanks all. Now on to the RD that he wants to have in by midnight Sat. (and of course it would be a non-Common App one--grrr!)

I suspect our kids are doing the same set of early applications - she finished the SCEA last night, and now it's time to complete the applic to Mich BUT WE SUDDENLY CAN'T REACH THE EMBARK.COM WEB PAGE. This is beyond aggravating.

Yikes! Maybe sign off and back on? "We've" got the nuts and bolts on that one done, essays still to go. Good luck to your DD.

bblfraser -- I'm with you. The EA apps are in, and it's burnout time. We're not working on RD apps for a couple of weeks. But we won't know any of the results of the EAs until those are done anyway, so I hope she'll still have the motivation to work on them. EAs aren't the same as EDs in any case, since they don't manifest the same kinds of dreams and hopes.

Enjoy the break, and hope it's rejuvenating before you get back into it.
