hi rubichino,

Can you explain to me what is a bank draft also?
I am kind of confused as well.
So you are going to UST?

hi rubichino,

@rubichino: I am not a candidate from Thailand, if you read one of my posts earlier. I’m actually an international local student - haha. I’m a Hong Konger studying in Singapore - and you could probably guess where I am from, but I will not comment on that - don’t want to reveal too much hehe. Does ‘your country’ refer to the UK?

For all those who are waiting for results from HKU, do remember that HKU is the most selective institution in Hong Kong and all the top local students do go there - so if you are competing for a competitive major, it could be tough to get in.

But again, being ‘international’ in a sense do help - think they recently wanted to extend the student body to 20% international - that COULD ease things up.

@TheGrand: I am actually Asian and that is why i define myself as ESL student… My country is in the eastern side of Asia… I can’t really reveal the name of my country here too becuz my current government seems to manipulate everything including internet forums, newspaper, tv news, and so on… I want to avoid every single possibility of getting targetted by the government. hahahaha~ Anyways, But itz still surprising to me that you know my school’s name… Maybe you you joined SEASAC or other oversea sports…? I saw some HK girls playing volleyball at my school a few months ago, and their play was fantastic!

@SDG1: That part was really frustrating to me too… Even my parents had no idea what ‘bank draft’ refers to… Are you living in your own country now? Then the best thing you should do is to go to your bank and ask what to do… Bankers should understand what to do… I think it’s a type of paper money that you write the value and your signature at the back… Can you picture it?

@rubichino: hehe @ SEASAC - won’t comment on that anymore :P

Anyone hearing from HKU yet?

I see many of you got offers from HKUST like me and are required to pay the deposit. Anyhow, we are yet to receive any news from HKU, and still hoping to hear from them. But what if the offer from HKU comes after the deposit for HKUST is paid? HK 20,000 is not a small amount to be threw away. But if I don’t pay for it and the deadline is over, and later HKU is not offering me anything, then, I will be as good as dead meat. How? =.=lll

donutz, may I ask you what you applied for hku?
If what you are applying for hku is not as good as the offer u get in ust, then pay the deposit. If you think they are the same, still pay the deposit.

Donutz, when are you required to respond and pay the deposit?
I know that results for the course which I applied will have admission decisions released at the end of this month.

My deposit is refundable if i screw up my ap exams…
So if i get admitted to hku, I’ll just screw up my ap exams. hahaha! no problem~

…
wait a minute…?
but… what if hku gives me the same condition…?

It has been a while I did not post anything in this thread. So, I wanna introduce myself again. XD

I am a junior in Taiwan and is going to apply US and HK unis. next year.

@SDG1: After you pay the deposit, when do you have to pay the full tuition?

Also, can anybody tell me about the “early decision” system? Is it the same as US unis’?
ED accepted= Have obligation to go??? Can I apply right after the online app open ( around late September) and declare as a RD applicant?

Thanks!

What are reasons that CUHK is renown in HK but few international go there? Personally, I think CUHK website is not as informative to international students as HKU’s & UST’s…

Also, how’s the job prospect in terms of engineering and business respectively? I am very interested in engineering but dunno how hk does in this field? Seems most of you are going to study business~~

hey yingtinglin,

Yea, for some reason CUHK is more renown in Hong Kong, but not so in the international level.

I am not sure when you gonna need to pay the rest of the tuition.

Guys, if HKU and UST both accept you, where would you go?

@SDG1: I’ll Probably go to HKU…
As far as i know, name value is very imporatnt for bachelor degree regardless of the rank of each specific faculty…
In fact, i ran into many adults who told me “you should look for name value for bachelor, and specific major rank for master”
but still, UST is really good school for future engineers like me… :(

Hey I just realized, and thought I’d ask you guys…

I applied to hku, and still haven’t recieved any written notification/confirmation e-mail from them…is this normal?

@rubichino: Chances are that the requirement laid out by HKU will be at least equal to that of HKUST if not higher. HKU simply has the best average caliber of students in Hong Kong, and a larger proportion of the more talented students do choose to attend HKU - mostly because of its name and education.

@SDG1: I didn’t apply to both, only did so for HKU - and simply because I adore it more ;)

@Flibb: What courses did you apply for? Have you had an interview? I am not trying to scare you, but interviews do indicate whether the university is interested in you (depending on your course too). Assuming if I am not wrong, admission decisions are released at the end of April?

@TheGrand: No Interviews, and I applied for engineering. Oh, it was a late application
And I did get offered an interviewto UST’s dual degree program!

@Flibb: Umm I’m not sure if the engineers for HKU gets one or not. :S Sorry, can’t help you. But did you get an offer for UST’s dual degree program?

@Flibb: I applied for engineering in HKU, and had an interview last monday… I received the interview requests a week before that, and the faculty let me choose which day i could do the interview… from monday to thursday… So I assume that shortlisted candidates should have participated in the interviews… Is your gpa or sat outstanding? Really outstandin students are often exempted from interviews you know…

@Grand: Well I got an interview invite, its on 16th, so lets see!

@rubichino: Congrats ! Well not so outstanding, 2090 in I, 2300 in II, 3.93 GPA. I hope late applications are reviewed late!

@Flibb: Woohoo congrats What nationality are you again? Is it a phone/physical interview? I am really anxious to know my decision now :S

@Grand: Its from HKUST, and HKU, as I said, no sign on em…but really looking forward to UST! I’m from Pakistan, and its a phone interview. How about you, have you had yours already? I hope you get in! Maybe I meet you there :)
