@Lordxxx- Thanks Mate…Even I dont think ill get accepted at NUS
I hear UST is pretty stingy in handing out scholarships/aid to intls with non IB qualifications…Cant seem to understand why they are so fixated with the IB…arghhh…
yes i did apply for the swire thing, are you sure about it coming out only in march??
If so,i can keep hoping!!( only 6 people though)
Btw-where are you from??

@srathak-no worries, ill email the list in a couple of days

Hi guys, I’m new here.
I’m currently doing my A levels and applied for HKUST’s GB and HKU’s IBGM.
I’m also having my phone interview in like a few mins time XD

First of all grats to those who’ve already got their offer from HKUST. I would like to know how long does it take to know that you are accepted by UST after your interview or your application?

@anndaprincess-i too did A levels…Where are you from?
Good luck with your phone interview!!!.
it totally depends on your course of choice.
since you applied for one of their signature course,it might take time…probably 2-3 weeks

@sarthak-i hardly think that’s the case…
they probably have some arrangement with the IB board(conspiracy theory)
And BTW are engineering students from UST sought out after graduation??
i am really confused on whether to accept the offer…10K Hkd isn’t small money, is it…

@Sarthak: lol you’re sending your parents first to check out the place before going yourself…anyway, I’ll PM you the questions…thanks :)

@Anand: I dont know about HKUST being stingy about schols for intels but I didnt do IB…I did the UK A-levels.
I asked them about the swire schol and they told they’ll be givin them out later…probly in March…

And I am from Sri Lanka…you’re from India, I think?
Btw, I already accepted the HKUST offer…

@anndaprincess: Hey, good luck on your phone interview…it wont be that hard…
And they’ll probly give out the offer a week or 2 later…wont take much time :)

@Anand78 Thanks for the inof. I’m from Malaysia. Have you finish your whole A level course or you are taking the A2 this June?

@LordXXX Okayy, thanks for your info too :)

The interview went quite well. Now I’m waiting for a second call from someone who actually deals with the GB course so I guess this “phone call” will be a tough one to deal with. :(

Anand: Maybe it is so, but still they like IB better !
And see at Undergraduate level Any University that is in the World Top 30 is well reputed and people who will be interviewing you for jobs or post grad speak highly about it too !
It is a lot of money, but I think HKUST is more than worth it! In the end you should go to a place that suits “you” the best, dont go blindly by the rankings and reputation!

@lordxxx-I am Indian but i live in the UK…i did local A levels…I guess its similar to what you are doing…
oh ok, i ll just keep hoping for swire…hahaha

@anndaprincess-I finished my course in august…On a gap year now…good luck with the second interview…
i think British A levels are quite different from Malaysian A levels, any idea?

@sarthak-Thanks mate,i ll have to decide soon!!.
ill mail you my questions!!

Hi I just had my interview with the HKUST.It roughly lasted for 20 minutes.Oh God!! it was so challenging. The interviewer was a lady and it was a one-on-one interview. She were bombarding me with questions, but it was kind of fun(I was too excited).
She asked me:-

1) Why do you choose business?what do you expect to gain from the course?
2) If you were offered a choice of being the Chairman of a company, which would it be?How would you contribute to the company?
3)will Steve Job’s latest product succeed in Indian n global market?
4)Have you applies to any other uni in HK or any other nation?
5)What do you do in your spare time?

I did not know what to answer to #2, but I said Reliance LTD. company because of its success history and would like to contribute my communication skill as well as would try to formulate better economic policies by referring to the mistakes in the old policies and bla bla.

3 I answered that it would not be success in Indian market bcos of low purchasing power of the people and the quite similar facilities are availabe in other gadgets too.

Was I wrong?Plz correct me if I am wrong?

I was so nervous and excited that i answered what I could get hold of at that very moment. She also asked me my expected grades for the forthcoming public examinations, and said that they are offering scholarship only for students above 90%.

Neways things went well. When she asked me if I had applied to any other uni in Hk another countries… I said that i had also applied to HKU.

When I said that I did not apply to any other country she said–"seems like you are quiet determined to come to HK …hahaha "I was quiet relieved with her laugh…

I may be wrong at some point but I think she was trying to analyse my critical thinking ability.
As she always said “Hmm…” or " good good" at intervals.Well it was kind of a friendly chat.BUT NEVER EXPECTED SUCH QUESTIONS!!

Neways GOOD LUCK to all those who shall be appearing for INTERVIEW or so latr…!!

aman: To be honest, it sounds like your interview went really well Can’t say if it had an impact on the interviewer or not, but it definitely would not have given her reasons to not offer you a place…
Good Luck! I’ll see you in HKUST!!
